Palo santo, oils and incense that heal

palosanto-secoThe Palo Santo “Bursera graveolens” is medicinal. Its essential oil is used to heal skin wounds and a decoction of the bark to treat stomach ailments. It is also used in poultices to treat muscle aches hot.

The Language-Maskoy (a small language family of Paraguay) have the belief that a fire made with wood Palo santo prevents evil spirits come to the houses. We attribute this property due to the particular clarity of the flames that emerge from this wood on.

This tree is also present in the ritual of marriage in some Indian tribes. It is believed that the couple must plant a seedling of this tree in the absence of witnesses to link their destinies and that the union will last forever.

The tagua seed born of a wild palm whose scientific name is Phytelephas aequatorialis, also known as vegetable ivory, palm produces annually fifteen mocochas, which are ears that have a hard shell with projections, which protects about thirty seeds or nuts, of which the collars are made. DSC00091
