What do they have in common African elephants and the rainforests of South America?

May 7th, 2012

elefanteThe answer is very simple, and not only is that both are being eliminated from the face of the earth at an alarming rate.

In recent years the industrial and economic development worldwide is threatening our ecosystems and leading to the extinction of many species, including African elephants, which constantly hunted by humans looking for ivory.

Despite bans on international trade of elephant ivory has not succeeded in stopping the slaughter of these mammals, and the demand for polished-ivory is reducing these animal species everyday.

Across the Atlantic Ocean, in a land once connected to Africa, there is another kind of slaughter. In Central and South America, the destruction of the rainforests amounts to about 50 acres per minute, an area roughly the size of West Virginia each year.

The eco ivory tagua would stop killing of elephants

April 25th, 2012

elefantes

Since 1990 is totally prohibited hunting elephants in all African countries. However, there are  still 70,000 killings annually removing the tusks: less than 1,000 tons of ivory.

Many claim that the main reason elephants are hunted is for their tusks. It is also a sport and thus promote the tourist.

Was not this activity prohibited? Will it be a matter of law or common sense to put in risk the permanence of life on earth? ¿Ignorance, selfishness or ambition?

colmillos

More research is needed. For example, to replace elephant ivory there is tagua,  which generates an eco ivory, used in haute couture and fashion tagua beads and jewelry, without affecting the environment nor wildlife.

King of Spain underwent surgery after hunting elephants… What about the elephants?

April 24th, 2012

Rey Juan Carlos

Many lament the hip operation which had to undergo the King of Spain, Juan Carlos, after an accident while hunting elephants in Africa. Others such as the general secretary of WWF Spain, says: John ”is a national image problem as well as international rather than conservation of elephants in Botswana” and so it is discussed whether the King should continue in office.

However, there is a situation that goes beyond the King’s hip operation and remained in office. It is the life of these animals that need to be precautioned. If you kill for sport, there are many options for sports. And if it is for the ivory (tusk of elephants), now it has been discovered that the tagua generates an eco ivory that harms no one, it mimics the characteristics of elephant ivory, and contributes to the care of nature.

Then, as these elephants do not have ”a problem of national neither international image,” or hip surgery, they are slaughtered, just as simple as that.

Therefore, if you identified yourself with the Ecofriendly movement, spread the word and save the elephants, Link to us! Sharing is a key factor for spreading a message and I am sure everybody involved in the ecofriendly movement will be benefited, starting from our mother earth and Elephants. Little actions make huge improvements.
