Uses and benefits of citrus essential oils

Are you thinking about having an aromatherapy afternoon and dont know what essential oils to use? Have you heard about some types of oils but dont know which is the best to activate your senses? We show you the citrus essential oils, beneficial for mental and physical health.

There is a broad list of citrus essential oils, including lemon, lime, grapefruit, bergamot, orange oil and Palo Santo essential oil. Many of these are found in flowers, roots, leaves, trunks or fruits. Since they are very volatile, they should be stored well and stored in dark jars and in a cool place.

Some of these oils are extracted by pressing and others by steam distillation. In the case of Palo Santo oil, its extracted by distillation. This procedure lasts from 15 to 20 hours and is done in a single process.

They are antiviral, antiseptic, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and disinfectant. In the case of Palo Santo, it has these properties due to the high concentration of Limonene.

Precautions

Dont use lemon or Palo Santo essential oil directly on the skin because it can irritate the skin. If possible, dilute with another oil or use one that is not 100% pure.

If you are going to tan or expose yourself to the sun, dont use these citrus oils because they are phototoxic. It should not be exposed to the sun after 72 hours of its application.

Don't use essential oils in children under 3 years of age, pregnant women and pets.

Don't apply these oils on the eyes or in another sensitive area.

Remember that any of these citrus essential oils can be used in different ways to obtain the named benefits. By inhalation or aromatherapy, where you can put a few drops of oil in a diffuser and inhale the vapor. By topical route, you can put a few drops of oil in your bathtub and give yourself a relaxing bath, or in a compress put a few drops and rub on the body. By mouth, many oils can be ingested and used as additives for food.
