Sir Anthony Hopkins is considered one of the world’s greatest living actors. His performances are always deep, elaborate with characters that have distinctive psychological profiles which allows viewers to identify with him.

Hopkins is probably best well known for his portrayal of Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the 1991 movie “The Silence of the Lambs”, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. This incredibly suspenseful film knew how to captivate its audience and became a cult classic; its fans took the iconic, witty and eloquent serial murder to be one of the best villains in this history of Cinema.

Throughout the film we can take time to appreciate Dr. Lecter’s fine taste in clothes. The final scene of the movie shows him in a cream linen suit donning a “Panama Hat” and again in the sequel “Hannibal” he dons the iconic headwear again this time decorated with a silk ribbon.

It is not only on the big screen in which Sir Anthony has worn a straw hat, recognising it to be synonymous with elegance and good taste. Whether it be attending a gala to make a public appearance on the Hollywood red carpet or being with his family on a beach vacation, the actor whose recent work included portraying the powerful Norse God Odin in the second instalment of Marvel’s “Thor” franchise entitled “Thor: The Dark World” shows us that there is nothing more comfortable and versatile than a straw hat.

The charm of a “Panama Hat” is in knowing that is handmade involving months of effort, which has not been possible to duplicate with any industrial process, highlighting the skill of these workers capable of producing varied designs adaptable to many different tastes.
