Checklist for Clearing Bad Energy From Your Home

Is your home feeling drafty, spooky, or cluttered? Perhaps your family is arguing or complaining all the time. In our fast-paced modern world, it’s no wonder we sometimes bring home negativity, which can ultimately cause stagnant energy to accumulate in spaces. If you suspect there are bad vibes in your home, never fear - you can clear it with new age techniques including crystals, smudging, and aromatherapy - and get the positive vibrations flowing again.

Before proceeding, it’s important to make sure your house is clean, tidy, and free of broken items, which can all impede your home’s natural energy flow. Once that is done, you can move onto the fun part:

Create a grid with healing crystals

Crystals are renowned for their healing and protective properties. Selenite, also known as desert rose, can cleanse energy and raise the vibration in your home to a higher level. We recommend putting them on your windowsill or creating a crystal grid to manifest your desires. Many healers recommend using other healing crystals, as well, so if you have a favorite that works for you, place it in rooms where the bad energy seems to collect.

Smudge your home with palo santo

Smudging is a technique that involves burning bundles of herbs or wood to cleanse the home. Palo santo is a fragrant wood from the Ecuadorian rainforests known for its energy clearing abilities. You can also use bundles of sage, copal incense, and patchouli. Follow this step-by-step guide to smudge your home:

  1. Stand in the center or at the front door of the room you want to cleanse. Most people begin in the kitchen, as it’s the heart of the home.
  2. Light the palo santo like you’d light incense, and let the flames die out (they will, very quickly).
  3. Fan the palo santo carefully to encourage a steady stream of smoke. Envision the smoke absorbing bad energy and carrying it away.
  4. Cleanse yourself first by lightly fanning the smoke around your body, beginning at your feet and working up toward your head.
  5. Walk clockwise around the room, swirling the palo santo in circular motions. Pay special attention to the walls, corners and floor, and don’t forget the ceiling.

Essential oils are known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties - as well as their soothing fragrance. To create an all-natural cleaning solution, mix a bucket of water with the juice from five lemons, 1 cup of sea salt, ¼ cup of ammonia or white vinegar, and 5-10 drops of essential oil. Doors and windows are where outside energy enters your home, so make sure to clean the doorknobs, doors, and frames, and windows in your home. Do this every week or so to keep them purified.

We’d love to hear how you cleanse negative vibes from your living space, so please share your story in the comments below.

Great article! I cleanse with Aura Soma, a cleansing sprays or sage incense, those are just my preferences. After cleansing I usually spray Lady Nada by Aura Soma or just rose or floral incense or spray is also good. Aura Soma is a little pricey so rose incense for $1 is also good. It’s important that after clearing the energy that the void is filled with something postive.

I use black tourmaline as well as sage or Palo Santo in my home, but haven’t heard about the Selenite!
