Meet the artistic and cultural events of Riobamba for its 195 years of Independence

To do tourism in Ecuador is not only to know each one of the provinces with its cantons, its more than this! Tourism is about getting to know the traditions, customs, beliefs, cultures and festivities of each region.

Each city has its ancestral festivals, and Riobamba is no exception. Here traditional religious, artistic and cultural festivals are celebrated. The most outstanding celebration is El Pase del Niño and the Andean Rodeo; El Pase del Niño is an Intangible Heritage of Riobamba.

This year's motto is "El Color de la Alegria" in honor of its 195 years of independence with the Battle of Tapi. In this year its expected a lot of domestic and foreign tourists. All You Need is Ecuador to know the culture and traditions of this city.

Within the festival program of this 2018 there are concerts, craft fairs, parades, proclamation of the queen and more. Here is a list of upcoming activities to be carried out:

  •          Tomorrow Rio 2018. It will take place on Friday, April 6, at the Quinta Macají Fairground, starting at 3:00 p.m.
  •          Election of Queen of Riobamba 2018. It will be held on Saturday, April 7, at the UNACH auditorium starting at 7:00 p.m.
  •          Gastronomic and Craft Fair. It will take place on Sunday, April 8 at the Parque Guayaquil esplanade starting at 10:00 a.m.
  •          Concert by Víctor Manuelle. It will be held on Friday, April 13 at the Olympic Stadium starting at 7:00 p.m.
  •          Concert by Carlos Vives. It will take place on Saturday, April 14 at the Olympic Stadium starting at 7:00 p.m.
  •          Parade of the Riobambeñidad. It will be held on Saturday April 14 from the Olympic Stadium to the Municipality from 4:00 pm.
  •          Parade of joy. It will be held on April 22 at Av. Canónigo Ramos from 9:00 a.m.
  •          Macají Fair. It will be held at Quinta Macají on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of April.

Cultural events are the first to be promoted; art, contemporary music and painting are the most attractive for foreign tourists.

El Pase del Niño is another cultural event highlighted in Riobamba, in short it is a tradition. The colorful costumes, the bands of the town, the giant candles with forms of flowers and the dances to the beat of the bands, are present in the parties of Riobamba.

The artisan fair is another event attended by thousands of tourists in order to buy Ecuadorian products made by hand. Here there are on sale embroidered clothing, tagua jewelry, wicker ornaments, Panama Hats.

Riobamba is called "La Sultana de los Andes" because in addition to its traditional festivals it also has exotic places to visit, diversity in its flora and fauna, exquisite cuisine, hospitable people, and other cultural traditions that highlight this land of the others.
